To be honest, the last time I did box braids was four years ago. It was once my go-to protective hairstyle for my natural 4C hair, but it was too weighty, and I stopped.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE BEST KNOTLESS BOX BRAIDS

Knotless box braids are basically another box braids hairstyle. But what separates knotless box braid is the lightness. It also does not include a small knot at the root like the traditional box braids.

STEP 1 – HOW TO DO KNOTLESS BRAIDS

The braiding process starts with the person’s natural, then small feed-in pieces of braids into the person’s hair. The plait will come out like the traditional box braid, but flat, lighter and a natural look.

Not to mention, it’s becoming the box braids hairstyle trend for 2020, although it’s not new and been around since the 2000s and think its the best way to rock braids and be painless.

STEP 2- HOW MANY PACKS OF HAIR FOR KNOTLESS BRAIDS

I used three packs of X-pression for medium braids size. My stylist recommended that brand, but ask your stylist because it depends on how thick, sizes and length you want. My other recommended brand is X-pression.

STEP 3 – HOW TO PREPARE HAIR FOR KNOTLESS BRAIDS

First, you’ll need to wash, detangled and blow-dried hair before braiding. It protects the hair and makes it easy for the braiding installation. Especially for 4C type hair or tighter curl pattern. 

STEP 4 – THE ACTUAL PROCESS AND COST OF KNOTLESS BOX BRAIDS

After all, it can take upward of eight hours to install, depending on the length and size. I call this process for the faint of heart. By hour four, I opt for a break (my butt was numb).

Keep in mind to have comfort hair. And the cost of knotless box braids can be between $300 to $500 based on the sizes. For transparency, I paid $0, my sister is a braid stylist and decided to bless me. Lol. But I did purchase the braids.

Now, don’t be misled and think once you install braids, you don’t have to maintain it. It’s a myth! It’s essential to keep your hair hydrated and your scalp clean.

In fact, synthetic hair causes dehydration, which leads to breakage. Hence you will need to do daily moisturizer with oils.

Before I forget, wash your braids and scalp three weeks after getting it to keep your scalp healthy.

Here is a list of hair products I used to keep my hair clean: dry bar detox dry shampoo and briogeo leave-in conditioning spray.

STEP 6 – HOW TO REMOVE THE BRAIDS

So, here is the know-how. Plan a movie night with friends and let everyone help you. But make sure to provide snacks and drinks.

Moreover, binge-watch your favorite Netflix shows. When you or your friends are removing it, be gentle, your hair is more sensitive to breakage. I read spraying Aloe Vera water to soften and loosen the knots is good.

Keep in mind that your hair was untouched for weeks, so shedding is possible.
