START WITH PRAYER

Prayer is a way to invite God to direct you through the Word. God often uses His written Word to give us the wisdom to understand him. Hence, invite God into your bible time through prayer. You could play soft worship music in the background and pray something like “Father, reveal to me through your Holy Spirit something new. Help me to live your Word.”

READ AND UNDERSTAND

If you don’t know where to start, ESV journaling bible is a good bible. The point is to get a manual that is easy to follow. It doesn’t have to be in a particular version. The purpose of the Bible is to get to know God. Don’t read it as a check it off a list, but a way to get personal with God.

WRITE THE WORD

There is something mysterious about writing. But before you start writing, get some nice journaling supplies, the idea is to express your love of scripture. Let me be honest cute supplies are attractive too. Then use a bible app to get a key topic to write. Also, use your Pastor’s sermon and study it over. The point is to understand it in context.

BE CREATIVE TO THE DETAILS

Here is where God doesn’t want us to read His Word. Faith comes by hearing the Word (Romans 10:17), but it also asks for action. Therefore pay attention to the details and apply them in your life daily.

STUDY IT WITH OTHERS

The Bible said two is better than one. Therefore, find a friend or mentor and speak through the Word. And if you did not understand something, they might clarify the scripture. Also, don’t feel you have to figure it on your own.

The Bible said two is better than one.

‘Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. ‘

Ecclesiastes 4:9

Therefore, find a friend or a mentor and speak through the Word. Also, if you did not understand something, they might clarify the scripture. Don’t feel you have to figure it on your own.

PATIENCE WITH THE WORD

I use to feel guilty that I did not read the whole Bible. But I was reminded that it’s a journey. So, don’t feel you have to read it all at once. Start small! Take a short passage of scripture and study it rather than the extensive readings.

LIVE THE WORD

After all, the primary purpose of the Bible is to help us live a life of purpose. So, don’t just read LIVE IT!
